Key Tactics
This deck can feel a bit counterintuitive to play, especially with Zemina, because your best option on most of your early turns will be to do nothing. This is so you can earn Penny Tokens that will let you either board clear with Whirlpool or do your OTK combo a turn early..
While you won’t be doing much on your early turns, you are free to act on your opponent’s turn without losing Penny generation, which is why Spells like Ice Sheath, Ice Arrows, and Shatter are in your deck. Ice Arrows will help with Swarm and Shatter with single threats, while Ice Sheath can stop the biggest Souls and even Summoners. Ice Sheath is also part of your combo when needed, which is why you’re running three.
Your kill combo is ideally two Nuwani Warriors, costing you 10 Water and attacking for 24 damage — enough to finish off most opponents. However, you’ll often end up needing to use one Nuwani and one Mirror Knight, which will cost you 11 instead, making it very important for you to have stocked at least 1 Penny.
Penny’s are Relic Accessories and so must be equipped before they can be Destroyed. On your own turn, it’s easy to do this when needed, but if you want them on the opponent’s turn, you’ll need to pre-equip them.
Your kill combo is crucial, so always prioritize keeping Nuwanis and a Mirror Knight in your opening hand so you have them when the time comes. Against aggressive opponents or ones who don’t realize you’re able to use your combo early, the board will be open for you to attack. If not, you’ll want to use Ice Sheaths on the opponent’s turn prior to yours.
If facing a Swarm or Midrange, you’ll likely need to Whirlpool two turns before summoning your Nuwani + Mirror Knight duo. With a Penny, you can cast Whirlpool as early as your second turn if you go second, or your third turn if you go first. Otherwise, Whirlpools are solid hand Blockers.
Greater Water Elementals are also extremely good hand Blockers and that is likely all you will use them for. Your goal is to end the game quickly and use Source primarily for your combo, so its fine to shed cards to survive. That said, if you can Whirlpool while a Greater Water Elemental or two are out, they’ll become strong attackers and provide you a great deal of Source if you Source Explode.
Keep in mind when Water Source Exploding, you don’t need to use the Source you generate. Instead, if you don’t finish the opponent off with your combo, you can safely return your Nuwani/s + Mirror Knight to your hand to use again later. Or, if the field is open, returning a Nuwani and Mirror Knight generates 5 Source, just enough to replay the Nuwani and attack again.
Though a Slow Spell, Mirror Cast is included as an extra Ice Sheath since this deck isn’t running Blizzard, or in niche situations to let you double cast Frozen Core on your attacking Souls against a Summoner who has Fast Attack. However, these cards could easily be swapped out for more Ice Arrows, Shatters, or Orbs of Unmaking depending on the deck you’re up against.
