Key Tactics

As a rule of thumb. If you can hit the summoner, attack. If you can block all damage from defenders with one card from hand, attack. If you can block all the damage from defenders with two cards from hand but you’re removing a soul from the field, probably attack. If the game has slowed down and your hand is looking full, probably attack. If you are wearing Juggernaut Plate, and can use spells (or Onyx Gauntlet) to take no damage when you attack then attack.

Your finishing move is to source explode to devote their lowest health soul. Then attack it with both gauntlets for a big pile of Overkill damage. Ideally you’ll have a Juggernaut Plate equipped so you hit the summoner with Overkill damage and then hit the summoner directly. Few decks can survive a double hit from both gauntlets.

Remember, you want to be taking damage. Blocking from hand cycles your decks to get you the gauntlets faster, and fills up your discard for the big finish. And you want to get your big finish before they pull out their win condition.

Use Granite Quarries to shape your incoming damage. Let just enough souls through to help you cycle your deck. And if your opponent isn’t playing aggressively, use a Rockside to slide all your rocks into discard when you have both gauntlets.

Ideally you’ll play a Soulforged Sword early, not a Gauntlet. A Gauntlet in hand is safer than one on the field. However if you have the cards to protect your Gauntlet, you can get a lot of value out of combining a soulforged Sword for offence and a Onyx Gauntlet for defence.

Use Sinkhole to remove obstacles to your finisher like a Soulforged Helmet, or on your own Relic in reaction to relic removal.

An Earth Elemental on the field can be good for ramping, however Storn is mostly here for hand blocking. If the game really stalls, you’ll be surprised how effective Earth Elementals are once you put some relics on them.

Misty can’t attack with a devoted Giant Riding Tortoise, attacking only once every other turn is a big sacrifice. On the other hand with Juggernaut Plate blockers need seven attack, plus whatever you can block with Earth Source and Spells, to stop you hitting the summoner. If they’re bringing out lots of small souls, don’t play it at all. Use rockslide and constant aggression to keep the numbers down. If bigger souls come out and stall you, play the tortoise. You should have a second one in your sideboard.
