Key Tactics
With four catapults you have a lot of direct damage, but you also have some solid souls for the mid game. Your key to victory is to double dip, get value from the souls as fighters and as ammunition.
Soil Trolls will usually be your best opening play since you don’t mind if they are Destroyed, which is why you have three of them. You can also Destroy them yourself with a Mangonel or The Necessary Sacrifice — a Spell that can be surprisingly effective at clearing enemy souls.
Earthblood synergizes in multiple ways, letting you generate more Pylons for your Source Catapult, more Health and thus damage for your Mangonel, or to keep a Soul alive if you need. For example, a Boulder Troll surviving a fight that would have otherwise Destroyed it so it can then Transform to Heal and be chucked at the opponent for big damage is great value.
Remember, Mangonels deal less damage if a soul has been injured.
Llyrielle’s ability is too expensive to show up often in the early game, but once you have the source he adds a lot of flexibility to the deck. With a Troll Laborer, two source can summon a granite chunk even on your opponent’s turn or have a Source Catapult shoot an extra time, which can win you the game. Note that Troll Laborer’s Focus ability does not make a Source Catapult’s ability fast.
Even without Llyrielle, Troll Laborer’s + Catapults/Mangonels is a strong combination and a good opponent will try to remove them quickly. To help protect the Trolls, it can be wise to play Baldaga first, for her aura, or keep extra Source or Pylons at the ready for Earth Source Power.
For sideboards focus on cards like Grounding, Harden, and extra Orbs of Unmaking. Llyrielle’s ability also works well with Blade Golems if you find yourself in need of more Soul removal. Use whatever protects you from your opponent’s counters to your deck.
