Key Tactics
Your ideal opening is to go first and play a Kobold Fighter + a Kobold or Cold-Blooded Kobold, so you can start pressuring your opponent right away. That said, keep in mind that Kobold Fighters are very useful when you get Vyrstrad on the field because they will let you get two Kobolds out for just 1 Fire Source, so you may not want to summon them all in the early game, even if you have them.
Use Roros to Hunt and Destroy bothersome Souls or to Hunt them to drag them aside so they can’t defend against your Kobold Swarm. Against more tanky Souls that Roros is Hunting, you can soften them up with a Fire-Eater or Fire Source Power, or have the Tamed Orix tag along for extra damage.
Your standard win condition is to quickly overwhelm the opponent with your swarm, Destroying what defenses they manage to setup with Fire Source Explosion, and then ideally, go in for the kill with multiple Souls buffed by a Kobold Spitfire or two.
To close out a match against an opponent who still has a bit of life left and some defenses up, use a Greater Fire Elemental’s Devote Ability on a low health Soul, Fire Source Power, or an Ambush with the Tamed Orix and Roros. You can even Ambush on back-to-back turns if you sideboard in a second Tamed Orix, using it to replace the first that is still recovering.
Regular and Greater Elementals let you remove problem Souls in a way you might otherwise struggle to without Fire Source Exploding. They can also provide the push of damage you need in the late game. On the flip side, Greater Elementals provide excellent defense as hand Blockers.
Kkekelbas is mainly in your Deck as your best hand Blocker by far, but the Legendary can also serve as an alternate win condition with its high attack damage. If you want some extra synergy, sideboard in an Albino Kobold or two for your Fire Elementals. That way, when Kkekelbas’s end of turn effect Destroys what’s left of your Kobolds, you’ll do face damage.
