Key Tactics
You have several win conditions in this deck. The most fun one is to combine Storn, Pyroclast Casing, and Overkill from a Relic to deal 36+ damage in one hit. Your other two win conditions are to use the Earth Elemental’s Aura to charge your source Catapults with elementals, or to use your ramping to build up hives.
Your Ramp curve is very smooth. Open with a Lesser Earth Elemental, who summons a Stone Pylon. Next turn that Pylon lets you bring out an Earth Elemental. The turn after that you can devote two sources and two of your elementals for The Ur Elemental. Losing your rare elemental will only set you back a turn.
The catch is that if you go first you brick on your first turn, and on turn two your only blocker is the Stone Pylon. Thankfully Elementals and Grounding are both excellent hand blockers. But put Osvult in your sideboard.
Storn isn’t indestructible, but as a general rule the only things that can kill him are combo win moves, Venom with support from other souls, and Destroy effects that don’t measure stats like the Order spells. Use Earth source power to counter the Venom and Grounding to counter the spells. With an Earth Elemental on the field, you can pay for Grounding by Devoting Storn alone.
It’s not your best move, but Earth Elementals are incredibly tanky souls. Put a spare relic on one and you can get a solid attacker out of it, especially if you support it with Earth’s source power. If your opponent lacks a counter, a weapon on a flying summoner is never a bad idea.
In this deck turning your sources into pylons reduces your overall source production by as much as four per turn each. Expect to make a choice between your catapult’s damage or your hive production.
