Key Tactics

Your goal is to delay your opponent until you have enough source to kill them with some combination of Giant Fighting Hawk or Whirling Edge. Play your source, your Meditation, then wait for your opponent’s turn and counter any threats with Xanthos or a spell.

Even if you could keep Pitri alive for ten turns, you’re hoping to win the game on turn five or six. Pitri’s purpose is to give Xanthos guaranteed discard fodder while increasing the odds of drawing a turn one Meditation. If you’re setting up for a Giant Fighting Hawk finisher, make sure he’s on the field or in the discard before it’s time to summon the hawk. But don’t counter something random if you need Xanthos to counter a spell like Defensive Kata that blocks your hawks.

Don’t be afraid to Mulligan four cards when searching for a Meditation, Winds of Change is there to recover any finisher you Mulliganed.

Shockwave, Decoy, and Twister are excellent, if your opponent has cards that they counter. Have an extra Shockwave and Decoy in your sideboard, and more finisher moves like Ki Strike if they’re unneeded.

A Source Explosion isn’t just to let your hawk attack again with Echo, it can refresh your Whirling Edges too.
